PRESS RELEASE

Two years after the first solo show dedicated to Carlo Battaglia, Labs Gallery proposes his works again, choosing however a different "cut". In fact, the gallery public and enthusiasts will be able to see the artist's lesser-known production, the one that moves away from the models and styles of "Analytical Painting" that Battaglia had thus contributed to create throughout the Seventies.

In fact, "Oceanie e altri mari" shows works ranging from 1980 - the year in which the artist is present for the second time at the Venice Biennale with a personal room and a series of works called "Oceanie" - to his death in 2005, after he had practically retired to live and paint on his native Sardinian island of La Maddalena.

These works are apparently very different from those of the decade that gave them fame: they are clearly "figurative" - for what this term is still worth... -, and the subject is one of the most used and abused in the history of art: the sea and only the sea. But Battaglia, as a great intellectual as he was - as well as a very fine painter, scholar of ancient techniques - declared that he had always painted the sea, even during the Seventies, only under different expressive species. His obsession for this single theme, then, is emblematic of the ability, which is few, to combine his own experience, his roots, with the most extreme linguistic experimentation, with the infinite possible variations of a single subject, so ductile and rich as to be inexhaustible.

The exhibition will be open at the Labs Gallery in Bologna via Santo Stefano 38 from 6 October to 16 November with the following opening hours: Tuesday - Friday from 15:30 to 19:00 - Saturday from 9:30 to 12:00 info 3489325473
