Promenade is a journey through the many years of work by the German-born, Italian-naturalized artist Elisabeth Scherffig. The book accompanies her first retrospective exhibition in Switzerland, at the Fondazione Ghisla in Locarno. In the exhibition and the book—both divided into five sections—the central themes of her artistic practice emerge through her works.

These are the elements Scherffig observes to gauge her surroundings: remains, ruins, construction sites, fragments of nature and architecture, all poised between human activity and the state of nature.
