Elisabeth Sonneck was born in Bünde, Germany, in 1962. She lives and works in Berlin.
Sonneck develops a practice that moves between painting, sculpture, and installation, using long rolls of paper and reclaimed materials. Her works, suspended between two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, often take on monumental forms and are always conceived in dialogue with the architecture that hosts them.
At the core of her research lies a deep engagement with material and its intrinsic gravity: paper is folded, rolled, and unfolded into installations that are never definitive, but instead closely tied to process, to the duration of an exhibition, and to the possibility of change.
Through formal simplicity and chromatic rigor, Sonneck explores painting as a physical and rhythmic experience, in which the repeated gesture of the brush becomes a measure of the body and of time.
