Elisabeth Sonneck was born in Bünde, Germany, in 1962. She lives and works in Berlin.
Sonneck develops work that moves between painting, sculpture and installation, using long strips of paper painted with oil on one side and transforming them into temporary spatial configurations. Her works, suspended between two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, take on monumental forms, always in dialogue with the architecture that welcomes them. Central to his research is the relationship with the material and its intrinsic gravity: the paper is folded, rolled and unfolded in installations that are never definitive but always linked to the process, the duration of an exhibition and the possibility of change. With formal simplicity and chromatic rigour, Sonneck explores painting as a physical and rhythmic experience, in which the repeated gesture of the brush becomes a measure of the body and timetime.
